Bad "Dealings" in Detroit

This is one of the most poorly written articles I've ever read, and I have no idea how anybody was cheated out of anything.

After reading both articles, I still don't understand how the scam worked. What happened to the dealer, who seems to be the most culpable here.

I thought the term was Card SHARP, not Card SHARK.
Sharks play pool, right?

Agree that this article was pedantic and poorly written.
I see this more and more every day.

Both terms have been used for a long long time. Regional differences, etc...

I was totally confused also. A search reveals that there is a table game they call Hold-em, but it is played heads up against the dealer. The dealer makes no bets or decisions, and you win or lose depending on the hands.

Journalism schools today seem to be spending too much time teaching political correctness and not enough time teaching grammar and the 5 Ws of reporting: who, what, why, where, and when.

Really? A heads up hold 'em game with the dealer? What could possibly go wrong ...

Well, I guess I learned something new today and it's only 1pm. I might be able to squeeze another nugget in there by days end. :D

Similar to blackjack, you win if you beat the dealer's hand, and lose if you don't. The scam was the dealer either paid off losers or neglected to collect the losing bets.

Five of the seven charged pleaded guilty. The dealer has not, and is awaiting trial.

table game - 3 card poker or hold-em progressives - just like blackjack with crooked (or drunk) dealer
