big Baltimore bridge goes down

after a MAERSK cargo ship hits it. A mass casualty event with people in the very cold water.

The ship hit a support head on so mechanical issues or ???

Local harbor pilot takes over the helm to navigate into port . . . woman driver???

Seems as though the vessel was crewed by indians and quite possibly became immobilized with attendant loss of steering capability. A tragedy of the ever increasing economies of scale.

Alejandro MajorAss said "Our thoughts are with the families of the missing and injured."

Jim Quinn just mentioned it the other day that it used to be when a tragedy occurred, gov officials would say something like "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims." They don't say "prayers" anymore.

Mayor Pete says the bridge was racist from the start.

I've driven over that bridge before, it is hard to believe thevhorror that must have been! That is a huge drop to the water.

Biden may visit the site. Too bad he didn't go there last night!

Perfect... the SS Briden took out the US Economy. And this took out the bridge which carried the name of the author of the "Star-Spangled Banner".

If the Libtards are still in power when it's repaired the will rename it the Dylan Mulvaney Trans Rainbow Bridge.

Seriously?

You're trying to make this a political thing?

Learned that from the Democrats over the last 10 years.

I can only imagine what the new bridge will be named by the powers that be . . . maybe George Floyd Bridge or for local flavor perhaps Ray Lewis Bridge or Freddie Gray Bridge

This is awful. I grew up five miles away. I remember my dad taking us for a drive over it the day it opened. It was a huge deal. I spent many teenage night drinking adult beverages under the base of it at Fort Armistead. Really sad day for this native. It's going to cause some real issues for the city for a while.

It sounds like they were leaving port and lost power. They could not steer or stop and it takes a couple miles coasting to stop. They did radio ahead to tell about the emergency and they closed the bridge to new cars entering ...

So no fail-safe mechanism, nice. Not saying it was terrorism but think how easy it would be to hijack one of these ships and do some major damage to bridges or ports. 25 years ago, nobody expected planes to fly into skyscrapers. Perhaps they should be brought into or out of a port using tugboats.

I don't think they gave much warning, you could see cars zooming by on the bridge literally seconds before the collapse. But it is a good thing they did, could have been a lot worse.
