I swear I have seen this before but Googling claims it just happened. Senator Hawley is such a mean bully, so what if her husband held stock she did not know about, that can happen to anyone. It happened to me and I got caught trying to cheat on my taxes.
There is a little lefty role play in there. I give Granholm credit. She is a snotty liar, but she does not appear to be the total dumb shit most Biden appointees are. As for my incident, my wife sold her stock that was Wherehouse Records company profit sharing so it was 100% taxable, those stores were very popular in the 70's and 80's but went defunct in early 2000's. She did it early in the year we were married and did not tell me about it, and we always filed jointly. I think she used the money to help a family member, she was 21 and never even owned a car and pretty much had the clothes on her back.
Anyway Uncle Sam did not catch up to me till 6 years later and we divorced after 4 1/2 years. I worked lots of overtime and always claimed zero, I was renting and just filled short form at the time. Yes at the time I was giving Uncle Sam an interest free loan. Usually any adjustments to a tax bill or refund you would get a letter, it came a couple days after the refund check.
Instead of a damn near $4,000 refund I ended up with $500 or so. I was on a very financially responsible streak saving up to buy my second home and start a business. I pretty much pissed that $500 away as quick as I could.
It went to booze, eating out, and a Laughlin trip.
