derby futures-good bet?

In my opinion racing should offer every bet they can. People are complaining about the rainbow pick 6 but some of those same people will be all over this bet when it may be dumbest bet around. The money in the rainbow 6 is getting held up, they say....well with this bet the pool is held up for months at least with the rainbow 6 someone can hit ANY DAY. They offer horses that once you bet, if they get hurt or don't go for the derby....your money is GONE. So then theres a field bet.....yeah its usually 9-5. The derby future bet may be the dumbest bet in all of horse racing...........
But who cares? People play it anyway. It creates a buzz for the derby and gets people into the game. Thats all that matters if one is booking bets. This is what horse racing needs to understand. If people will play it, they should offer it. The same people that are saying the rainbow 6 is not a good bet will be all over the place hyping this ridiculous future bet. They have it all wrong...people should be able to bet anything that they want...there should be more bets like the rainbow 6 and the futures bets if people will play it. That should be the standard...are people playing this bet? It cracks me up when people try to analyze gambling....its called gambling for a reason...you most likely will lose! This argument about good bets and bad bets is a moot point. Betting is betting and most people lose, thats the bottom line. Offer different kinds of bets with low increments and betting will expand on the products people like. Then once it catches on, don't shoot it down...its like shooting yourself in the foot. I know serious players don't like this, but business is business and people will bet on just about anything if you offer it! Of course, horse racing is such a GREAT BET that all of us are getting rich off of it! Yeah ok...lol

This post would look much better with separated paragraphs.

The future book bet can be good if you can find good value. Obviously, playing the "all others" at 9/5 just seems like it goes against the spirit of a future book play if you're just going to take a short price like that.

But if you like a horse that will be 30/1 to 50/1, then it wouldn't be a bad idea.

It's been pretty well-established that the Derby Futures bet is a terrible risk, which is why it's stagnated at its current pool size. It's a bad bet because horses are very fragile animals. With most of these horses it's even money they even get in the gate, much less defeat 19 other horses in a roughly run Derby. If you want to throw a few bucks on it for fun, more power to you, but as to whether it's a good bet....it's not. That 50-1 shot right now will probably be 20-1 on Derby day anyway, and at least then you'll know he'll run in the race.
