That was the first time I recall hearing about "Operation Wetback" I was 7 years from being born in 1954. I don't remember hearing about it in school and I spent the first 50 years of my life in California which I am sure has the highest number of illegals of any state.
I think a quick mass deportation would be a bad idea, just from an economic sense. If you could wave your finger and make every illegal vanish you would turn a lot of areas into ghost towns. I don't think they should all go, what they would need to do is hire more government workers to vet who stays and who goes. All drains on the taxpayer need to be sent packing.

It would take a lot of resources and the border needs to be sealed first. A good start would be to deport ANY and ALL illegal aliens convicted of a crime anywhere (besides the obvious coming here illegally) and make sure they do not come back.

I wonder if the illegal immigrant drug smugglers in California that are getting turned lose on no bail and skipping court are fleeing back across the border or continuing to do business as usual? That is happening, I am pretty sure they have to keep running drugs as I don't think the cartels say "oh well" if you lose the product. It is amazing how liberal thinking is so stupid.

Trump said the same thing in 2015...he didn't live up to the hype...it takes more than just a President to get things done.

Somehow we need to get rid of the bureaucratic class of dems in DC. They make up 95% of govt and are 95% dem.

instead of looking at these illegal immigrants as a negative, i would turn them into a positive. i would first shore up the border to not allow more in here. he says he will deport 20 million of them, so he must know how to find them. i would let them stay here and work. if they aren't self-sufficient, i would throw them out. i would make them pay double taxes for the first 15 years they are here and not grant them any voting rights. take those taxes and put the money directly to pay down the national debt. they actually could pay it off that way with 20 million new workers. the last thing you want to do is continue to give them freebies like they are getting now. most of the people that have got into this place aren't the worst people in the world. they are leaving places that threaten them and their families.

Yes, but where to send them? Some have been deported from their birth country and told not to come back because of their crimes in their homeland.
Maybe China labor camps and when they don't behave sell their organs.

I agree with most everything you say here.
Double taxes is a bit stiff, but having voting rights prior to citizenship
is a non-starter. Even for a pinko socialist like me........
There are way too many jobs immigrants fill to everyone's gain.
They have rights that must be respected, and they deserve a chance.
Freebies going astray cost legitimate tax payers. It's not just immigrants
that take advantage of loopholes in our system. Both Democrats and GOP
are to blame. We can, and have to, do a lot better in policing distribution.
Deporting en masse would be a disaster,
It's unlikely to ever happen, but all of our borders need to be secure.

At the very least he could appoint a DHS secretary that doesn't encourage millions of illegals to come in and lets Border Patrol do their job. Trump's threats to the Mexican president worked pretty good last time too.

As far as tax obligation, double taxes is fair to some and not others. I knew people that in effect over paid taxes as they paid the proper amount of income taxes but used a phony social security number, so their social security payments and the match from the employer was a waste. Those people were a rare breed, but they did exist, most cheated on taxes or did not file. I think making back tax payments should be on a case by case basis.

i am in my 8th decade here, i find there are so many things that are unfair in this world that i could spend all day complaining about them, just like poor Tricky Trump does. things are never going to be fair for everyone, you just do the best you can and try not to get stressed-out.

Give them a year to find a sponsor who attests that they have a tax paying job-have worked more than a year and put a limit on how many can be sponsored. Individual sponsors can sponsor no more than 1. Employers 10
Then start deporting the ones without sponsors

i missed that very important part about sponsorship. that is a big missing piece of the puzzle, without good sponsors you are going to wind up with too many bad problems. you need good, successful families and organizations that are very familiar with the place the immigrant came from for any plan to work. and people that have lived here for longer period of times.
we do plenty of other things wrong in this country. i remember when people went to work on government jobs to get all the benefits of the jobs like healthcare and pensions but they got less of a paycheck.. today they get all the benefits and more of a paycheck than what the private sector paid. the people that work in governments tend to be not the brightest of all lightbulbs either, but smart enough to know they want to keep those jobs.
