Life at ten

Life at Ten wins Beldame. Impressed? What about persistently? Would Rachel alexandra have won?

Persistently looked so good against Rachel and was placed 3rd. why is it that all of the horses that have beat rachel gone on to lose? Its like they knew she was the one to beat.

This is a lame attempt at a Rachel bash, considering the horse Rachel absolutely thrashed last time out came back to waltz in this one...

It makes Jackson's ego driven decision even more laughable. The horse Rachel absolutely ran into the ground last time will probably be the favorite in the Distaff.

We may not know the full story, but the decision to retire Rachel does look a tad daft from where i'm sitting.

It really does look like he retired her too early. Do you think Rachel would have won over LAT? RA won by 10 lengths a month earlier!

RA left LAT no chance in the Personal Ensign. LAT shrugged off Unrivalled Belle today. Unrivaled Belle beat RA earlier this year. Queen Martha ran within a couple of lengths of RA. She was nowhere today.

In other words, the form is muddled. That usually happens when there is no stand out horse within a set of horses: circumstantial factors make the difference and horses take turns beating each other.

You really have an awful opinion.

None of 'em, Smarty McGee...I'm totally serious. They're all just sorta "meh." I'm all like, "meh, stoopid horses."

'Specially saw it w/ these two in that piece o' crap Personal Ensign, just like we did today in this ridiculous blah blah Beldame. Waste of my time.

And thankfully I don't have to think about last year when defining standouts, so I can play the simpleton and never have to think too hard about things. Life is gooooooooood.

Uh...Life at Ten.
Without RA, she stands tall.
5 for 6, two Gr1 wins a and a Gr2 win.

RA may have won this race and I still feel saddened that she is retired.

I agree. She probably would have won this race. Maybe JJ should have skipped another Breeders Cup with her, so she could come back fresh in 2011. Ah well, at least she won HOY, and she gets to hang out with Curlin now.

I think Life At Ten's victory today vindicated my view (and PaceAdvantage's) when we said that Rachel ran very well in defeat at Saratoga by dueling off and crushing another Grade 1 filly and only succumbing late at a distance that was probably not optimal for her.

I think given today's result one could argue that unless there is some kind of physical issue that we don't know about, even if Rachel is not 100% of what she was last year, she was close enough that she may have had a great shot at the Ladies Classic at 9F.
