Politics aside: Historically, a "4 horse race" (on average) is about all the Triple Crown champs were required to defeat! Therefore, a 4- or 5- horse Belmont race going forward--while it may have a fiscal impact initially, and be less attractive from a wagering standpoint--is acceptable as before.

Particularly as a small field size here (if nowhere else in thoroughbred racing) may be the *least worst* of several admittedly distasteful choices. And indeed may be the only solution that restores a correct amount of Triple Crown difficulty.

Coburn is wrong. His argument is idiotic.

PA is wrong, however, to invoke the tireless "class warfare" argument against him. Class warfare is real. The privatization of the commons and the destruction of social fairness is real. If you are an elite, you won't face the same punishment structure ordinary people face. if you have money, no matter how ill-gotten, you can spend it all to impact the political system without anyone being able to do anything about it.

Coburn's ill-informed rant is not a true class warfare argument.

During the party at the Derby Museum after Funny Cide's win in the Kentucky Derby, a female Kentucky "Blue Blood" made the following statement.

"My God, some of them are school teachers."

I can't defend the Churchillians, but after getting scolded following the Preakness, I can sure see why.
