Sports Illustrated Cover
Saw a preview, it looks like AP at the wire will be this weeks SI cover.
It is (of course) an amazing photo.
This is no small feat, as the NBA and NHL playoffs are in full swing.
Looks like horse racing is back in the spotlight, if only for a week

Two interesting things jump out at me :
1)The great graphic work to put the Belmont Park tree line "in front" of the SPORTS ILLUSTRATED title... Subtle but clever
2) The showcase view of 1000 cell phones whenever something cool is happening. - Sure didn't have that problem in the 1970's.

The cell phones are what make the photo, actually. (I'm not denigrating the horse by saying that. But by showing the cell phones, the photographer really announces "this is a historical event". It's really well done.)

Shortly after the race I asked my 10 guests...'Will AP be on the cover of SI?" all responded yes...has to be. Glad to see it!

You are correct, racing is getting its "2 minutes of fame" and I couldn't be happier; just hope the industry keep it going.

Hate the photo
Hate the cell phones
They couldn't find something that emphasizes the horse more?

I agree. The horse looks like a minor after-thought. They would never have done that with any other great athlete.

Love the photo. No issue with the cell phones. I think it works because it shows the horse and the fans together and how into it the fans were at the time.

The photo is an example of what's wrong with society.......Stinkin' cell phones trump an historic Triple Crown win.......Does Draft Kings run horse racing tournaments? That would be a big NO.........pleaseeeeeee

Of course they have.
Jordan's GW shot vs. Utah..was a wide crowd shot, that showed one guy celebrating before it was hit. Same thing with Ray Allen's shot vs. the Spurs.
The composition of this shot is wonderful. The fans make the game, and in this case, you have a lot of fans just taking in and recording for posterity what was about to happen.
Great photo.
