So you should definitely lobby your Congressman to make that happen
If you follow the law why would the Federal Government bother you?

What does that have to do with anything? Do you not know what protections 230 gives to PROVIDERS?

Let me illuminate...providers can't get sued for what their dumb-ass users post.

For instance...libelous comments about another person.

So it is near impossible to sue you when examples mean nothing. Your tweaks would just be minimal. Facebook and Twitter could also tweak to stay in the game. In short owners lose control of the lets have it my way and would have to conform to maybe 600 pages of nonsense or be sued successfully. You could have a drastic view but half of america would not mind if the big boys get kicked in the balls.

I think your exaggerating, member so and so calls someone a name or posts bullshit nothing will happen because small potatoes, as the owner of a site does it they lose house and everything and small potatoes ends up owning what you used to. Easy to tweak. Puts a collar on the owner.

So you are clueless as usual. Thank you for your answer.

I tried to spell it out as simply as I could.

All you have to do is google it...or use whatever tool you think won't track you to look up the definition of section 230.

Quote:
Section 230 says that internet platforms hosting third-party content are not liable for what those third parties post (with a few exceptions). That third-party content could include things like a news outlet’s reader comments, tweets on Twitter, posts on Facebook, photos on Instagram, or reviews on Yelp. If a Yelp reviewer were to post something defamatory about a business, for example, the business could sue the reviewer for libel, but thanks to Section 230, it couldn’t sue Yelp.
Why must you make EVERYTHING so complicated.

So the reality is until the bill is in print it means nothing, Musk, Zukerburg, and others have a deadline into effect and I am sure by the deadline they will conform and not lose a dime. What it becomes you yourself could and likely will adapt to. I am not suggesting the sky falls on you, but I am suggesting something amended is likely to happen and other forums will also stick around. There are a bunch of them, camera, gun, programming, audio, etc.

not my bailiwick but I believe prof vermeule at Harvard had a quote before about liberalism being "arbitrarily selective" in its choice of whose dignity to champion?

and I agree with Tom.

Actually, I don't think so. A lot of them (the small to medium sites) will probably pack up and leave...we are a litigious world...even the big boys may not be able to withstand the onslaught of lawsuits that will be coming their way if section 230 is revoked.

It could very well be the death of part of the internet...which is probably what they want.

This deserves a thread of its own.

Why would you need the federal government’s support to protect your property?

Wouldn’t a simple disclaimer work?

Why would I need their support?

Because the numbskulls that frequent message boards love to post libelous stuff about trainers, jockeys and their fellow board mates.

Those people can try and find out the identity of the individual and sue them if they wish, but currently, they can't sue me for providing the forum in which the libel was posted.

If this law goes away, they can sue me too. And homie don't play that.

If you look at Jeff's post #117 it may be very clear what will or might happen, no reason to think major changes to section 230 will happen. But when it does watch Zuckerberg, and all the biggies wear the collar.

So I agree, but think it has gone more than legs will go.

Something will hit the news and be the next warm trend posting.

It used to be that way…..but those were the early days of the net.

Creeping rules eventually took over, as usual
