Facebook Question
For reasons of privacy, I have to date resisted the temptation to sign up on Facebook.
If I am only interested in checking out information on other folks, or replying back with a comment, is there any significant risk that my e-mail address and/or any other information provided during sign up will be shared with others whom I may not want have it?

I think u can just log in and set your account to private...
Or everytime u get done with your session u can deactivate your acct and when u wanna go back on u just put in your email and password that will prevent anybody seeing your contact info....
One thing I like about PA is it cuts down on my fb time

If that is a concern you should just get a new email address and use that one to create your account. I have received emails from people I know on FB that they did not send and vice versa. It is not neccessary to fill out all the profile stuff, where you live, where you went to school, who you work for etc. The less you have, the less you have to worry about. Between Big Brother and Big Business they have all the info they want about us anyway so I wouldn't worry too much.

It's a cesspool of non privacy
Facebook is the most untrusted network around. Thousands have complained about their info being compromised
Recently a security hole in ther network was revealed that had been exploited for over two years, and Facebook admitted they knew about it, but had other priorities.
I have an account. Using a single email that was created just for Facebook. That's all it is tied to.
I have one Facebook friend. I use it to exchange info with a family member. That's it.
Facebook is gathering so much data on people and using it for god knows what. They rival Google in data and "signal" collection, yet Google admits what it does, most of the time. And provides value back to the user. Facebook does very little of that.
Remember, if it's a free service, you are the product.

I have 14 friends on FB and know them very well. What little information I have there is only available to them. It amazes me how people can be so naive putting so much of their personal info out there and then intrust 5 or 600 so called friends they know nothing about. I know a few that actually do this.

Shouldn't the reason be that you're a middle aged man.

Pace advantage.com is must read material....over last month or so I've cut down reading 2+2,HP and Facebook about 90 percent...if not more..
Anytime I have questions now I'll just ask members here who are 100x more knowledgable then anybody blowing hot air on other sights
All Facebook is for me Atleast a place where people cry about there problems or pics of what there having for dinner tonight.....it's all nonsense and I really don't care.....I may check fb one a day it's so pathetic and now there is this club Cosmo thing making jest of the Boston bombings and tornado it's just a waste of time im glad I don't partake anymore
Anytime I have the urge to go on fb I just click the PA button and I'm happy....I don't care about people's problems on fb but I'm more then willing to
Listen to people's problems betting horses here!!!!!! F%#~FB

Not always applicable. I know geezers my age that love Facebook and, heaven forbid, Twitter, and waste a lot of time there. Not this old geezer. No Facebook, MySpace, and I don't Tweet or Toot, or whatever the hell it is.

You can't check out anything and comment. All of the Hot chicks have their photos behind a privacy wall. You'll have to become friends with them first, which compromises everything. Best thing to do is just lie...tell them you are single, looking for a soul mate.

I don't have a FB account but I am not naive enough to think that some personal info is not out there. There are sites like MyLife.com that get that stuff from public records. Google your name and find out. It's pretty scary even if you don't put yourself out too much on the Interweb.

I've been watching a famous trial on line daily. One of the things the
defense attorney did was pick up his laptop and take it to the witness
and asked her if that was her facebook page. She replied "Yes it is" and
the attorney pointed out there was a link to Change Org on it for
people to sign up in support of the plaintiffs. The attorney was proving
that the witness was biased against the defendant. So watch what you
say on line as it can be held against you.
This is why the police read you your Miranda rights. It basically tells you
to keep your mouth shut or anything you say can be used against you
in a court of law.
When we start up our browsers, I think there should be a message that
tells us anything we say or write in a forum, facebook, etc. is public
knowledge and we should keep our opinions to ourselves unless we
want them possibly used against us. Of course if we use due care and
caution about what we are saying then we can be somewhat safer and
still be able to voice our concerns in a facebook like atmosphere.
