Mirror, mirror

I have been observing just where the photofinish reverse image mirror is at various places and wow there are HUGE differences. No wonder so many eyeball the finish incorrectly!

Woodbine and Keeneland are about 7 to 8 inches PAST the winning post, and noticed this AM that Belterra is about that same distance BEFORE the post.

Oaklawn is RIGHT in the correct place" splitting the winning post.

But they will still make use of that inane "slow-motion-to-freeze-frame" shot of a close finish in their track feed using a camera positioned about 15 feet ahead of the finish line above the winners' circle - which is obviously always gonna favor the inside horse. A shot that helps no one and only confuses some. Thankfully they've added a right-on-the-line motion camera this year (as at Santa Anita and others). Time to get rid of the stupid shot.

A half a length, give or take, and there is no broadcast camera directly over/on the finish line except for the photo finish camera.
