Tote Reform

I had posted this question in a reply in another thread a couple weeks ago but no one responded. Maybe I'll have better luck here.

What ever happen to the innovations mentioned in this article:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-rac...d-tote-security

And discussed in this PA thread:

http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/...ad.php?t=107316

I can't say I am surprised that nothing came to fruition, but it really sounded like it was a done deal. That was over 2 years ago in 2013 and promised developments in 2014.

Two of the improvements that I was excited about were rapid odds updates near post and also access to the probables in presently blind pools such as the trifecta.

i just watched the 8th race at Santa Anita today for the exacta payoff after the race. the combination 7-9 was calling for $65 for $1. 2 minutes later it dropped to $60 for $1.

This completely blew my mind:

Identifying pool participants and associated issues of takeout rates, minimum bet values, breakage rules, cancel delays, and currency exchange issues of each of those participants is critical."

Don't worry, the racing industry has things completely under control.

Just ask them.

no shit! i have been saying this for 7 years here. there has to be someone or a group of someones sitting in a room somewhere that has a live feed instead of the delayed by 40 second feed that we have in our living rooms betting and canceling after the bell rings at some point. i got nailed yesterday in an exacta pool in the 8th race at Santa Anita. i know about these things because i did it myself 20 years ago and know exactly how strong an edge this is. my guess is that a player loses more money to the after the bell than what the actual takeout and breakage is.

the exacta deal blew my mind yesterday because the exacta price dropped while the horse was getting his picture was being taken. the rest of the exacta's with the winner went up in price. i always knew that there were people betting 8-20 seconds after the break, now i see someone can get in those pools after the stupid race.

as a result of this i am going to cut way back in my wagers to basically nothing. i will just give the money to my favorite charity's that i figured i would have lost during the year. as it is when i win i always gave to some cause that i like. truthfully, i don't win that often anymore and i can now see why.

Yeah there's little doubt left in my mind there's been some type of after the bell skim going on for a good 17-18 years now. Something is up. This is why the feds should be involved, public money is being handled and there's no audit trail for an independent audit to examine where and when (timestamps) these transactions are taking place. Leaving the industry trying to police itself is a conflict of interest. They don't want bad publicity.

Tote reform won't happen until it starts costing the tracks money, then and only then will the horseplayers get second by second updates on the price.

someone told me that horseplayers who are betting with the tote don't need
second by second price reflections. Its that kind of attitude that the tracks have.

Players don't need that information.
