Anyone care to guess the probability of Cal Chrome making it into the starting gate for the Belmont Stakes?

Three weeks is a long time. A lot can go wrong between now and then.

I'll change my estimate as more info becomes available.

Based on the nasal strip question, detention barn stuff and NYRA hospitality for the owners, my first guess is 50%.

So you don't think this horse Nasal Strip has a shot in the Belmont?

Chance for Triple Crown 100% hes in the gate. Unless he has an injury.

So you're basically saying that if NYRA says no to the nasal strip the Cal Chrome connections will run him or if the Cal Chrome connections say they won't run without nasal strips then NYRA will allow them?

CC doesn't train in the strips and sherman doesn't run many in them either. he'll run in the belmont, with or without them.

Do you know this for a fact or are you stating your opinion?

Andy,
What is the real rule and reason about this nasal strip situation especially since New York allows them to be used at Yonkers and other harness tracks.

The fact that Sherman doesn't run many with strips bolsters the case for allowing Chrome to wear it in the Belmont stakes.

I'm sure in their review process, the stewards will weigh heavily just how much they think this horse genuinely needs this piece of unregulated equipment to run. That's why the whole process is in place to begin with.

The real rule is that there is no rule. If there was a rule on the books, the stewards would have already publicly stated that the strip is banned and there is nothing they can do.

The "rule" is that the stewards will consider any request made to them concerning unregulated equipment. Nasal strips fall under the unregulated equipment category at NYRA tracks. Thus, it is up to their discretion whether or not to allow them on a case by case basis.

Apparently, from what has been posted on this board, they will render their decision on Tuesday.

Period.

Is it too much to ask for NY to get out of its own way?

Stewards.

I agree about the excitement of perhaps seeing the crowning of a new TC-champion, but, the part about "all these great horses", I am not so sure...

I haven't seen much greatness in any of the other contenders so far this season...

Best Belmont of all time....Don't see it here...Just imo, is all...
